Getting Started with a wiki

  • go to

  • under the 'Join Now' select 'I am a teacher'

  • Fill in user name, password and email, click Join
  • Fill in the details on the next window (as shown right), think of a catchy interesting name for your wiki rather than choosing 'room8schoolwiki' (you might change rooms next year and then you will have to go to the trouble of changing names, urls, redirecting etc) Click Create once you have finished filling all of the details

To create a basic Resource wiki

follow instructions below

To create a Classroom wiki with projects, events and assessments

click here

Click on Settings

Click on General and select Basic Website and then scroll down and click 'Save'

  • Go to 'Theme and Colors'

  • Click on Flex Fluid or Tatami Left (gives you lots of space for adding content)

  • Click on a colour theme, click on Preview and Customise

Adjust colours on the colour wheel, click on Preview to see the changes, click Apply when the changes are complete

Change Logo

Open a new tab on browser

Go to choose a logo, type in your wiki title with spaces and capitals

If the Font size is above 80 you might need to make it a little smaller (I suggest 80)

You can change the font here as well by clicking in the font box

Click on the Logo tab to adjust colours

Click on the Shadow tab to adjust the shadow shade


Click on the Background tab and select Transparent (If you don't you will have a white background behind your logo

Click Create Logo

Click Personal Use

Click Download

Go back to your wiki and click on Logo

Click on Choose File

Navigate to your Downloads, that is where your logo will be

Double click it and then click Save

Navigation Panel

  • Click on 'edit Navigation'

  • Click on 'edit navigation page

Click on Navigation Widget and press Delete

Add Pages to Navigation Panel

Make a Text based Navigation Panel or a Button Navigation Panel

Text based Navigation Panel

Click on 'Link'

Type in 'Home' in the Page Name, follow instructions as highlighted to the right


Use the Formatting tools to make changes to the page name look

Highlight the word 'Home' then click on Screen Shot 2013-07-09 at 10.43.04 AM.png

Change the Font

Change the Size

Click on the Text Color

Click Apply Styles

To make next page, press Enter after home and then click on the Link button and follow Link instructions

The new link should be formatted as Home, if it isn't then follow above instructions again with the new page link

Click Save

Tip: You can insert a table into the navigation panel for a different look, here is an example of subjects added to a wiki
